THE EUDR CHALLENGE

As EUDR implementation approached, the stakes became uniquely acute for Suzano. The EU Deforestation Regulation requires operators to prove the legal and deforestation-free origin of raw materials at every stage of the fiber supply chain - not just at the point of export, but traced back to the specific plot of land where each tree was grown.

For most companies, this is difficult. For a fully integrated operator like Suzano - managing 2.9 million hectares of forest assets, running its own mills, and handling its own global trade - the supply chain spans three distinct operational layers, each with its own systems, documentation, and stakeholders. The information required was distributed across multiple internal systems, supplier networks, and documentation repositories, resulting in a highly manual, time-consuming process that required ongoing coordination among teams, suppliers, and stakeholders.

Under EUDR rules, if even a single tier of the fiber supply chain lacks verified origin data, the downstream operator cannot complete a valid Due Diligence Statement. EUDR IN PRACTICE

For EUDR specifically, the platform tracks the specific tree origin for each item ordered - establishing an unbroken, verified chain of custody from the exact plot of land to the final shipment. The platform automatically collects, validates, and organizes compliance documentation from both self-managed forests and external suppliers, consolidating everything into a centralized repository. Downstream customers can independently access the necessary compliance and verification documents, while Suzano’s proprietary supplier relationships and supply chain data remain fully protected.
